Michelle has 14 years of teaching experience, with a focus on developmental mathematics and online learning. She serves as the lead instructor for developmental math at Wake Technical Community College and is committed to finding effective, efficient ways to support student learning.

Professor Emily Carpenter has over 20 years of experience in education, with a teaching background spanning early childhood through higher education. Currently, she teaches various mathematics courses at (SSC) in rural Oklahoma, where she also serves as Transitional Math Coordinator. With a master’s degree in special education from Oklahoma State University, she is passionate about supporting students in corequisite courses and advancing both rigor and equity in mathematics instruction.

Bethany Chandler has taught mathematics at Butler Community College for 30 years. She is passionate about meeting students where they are and building relationships that help them feel confident and supported. She creates a positive learning environment and continually refines her teaching to best serve her students.

Hunter Chandler is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Bluegrass Community and Technical College and a PhD candidate in STEM Education at the University of Kentucky. With nearly 10 years of college-level teaching experience, he develops student-centered learning environments that emphasize mathematical thinking, college readiness, and self-efficacy. His work integrates evidence-based practices such as mastery learning, inquiry-based instruction, and Building Thinking Classrooms to support students in gateway and STEM-pathway mathematics courses.

Melinda Clardy earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and her master’s degree in applied mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology.  After graduation, she moved south and began her career as a professor of mathematics and statistics at South Louisiana Community College.

Dr. Brandon Ford is a Lecturer and Department Chair with over 15 years of experience teaching developmental mathematics, mathematics, and business courses. He has taught both gateway and developmental courses across multiple modalities, including face-to-face, dual credit, online, hybrid, and ITV. He has used Hawkes Learning for over 15 years and has seen its evolution from early versions on CD Rom to its current form.

Scott Hamilton holds a doctorate in Sociology from the University of North Texas, with an emphasis in Digital and Computational Sociology and Stratification. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business, where he teaches and researches big data analytics, statistics, identity, and social media.

Dr. Korey Kilburn is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Mathematics with a French minor from Edinboro University, a Master of Science in Mathematics/Operations Research from Miami University, a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering–Applied Mathematics from the University of Akron.

He teaches a wide range of courses across all levels of applied mathematics, with particular interests in numerical methods, probability, statistics, actuarial science, finance, and operations research. He enjoys traveling and experiencing different cultures. He has taught English as a foreign language to Russian-speaking students and has presented at international scientific research conferences in Ukraine. He speaks advanced French and intermediate Russian.

Michael Lanstrum brings over 35 years of experience in mathematics education. He has taught courses ranging from developmental mathematics to calculus and is the co-author of three mathematics study guides: Pre-GED Mathematics, AP Statistics, and Algebra I. He has received two Distinguished Teaching Awards from the Regional Campus System and an Outstanding Alumni Award from Kent State University.

Dr. Jerome Lewis is an Associate Professor at Bellevue University with a passion for “giving psychology away.” He received Bellevue University’s Excellence in Service Award in 2022 and is publishing a textbook on moral psychology in 2026.

Dr. Noutsos works in the field of bioinformatics and genomics at SUNY Old Westbury, a primary undergraduate institution. He is proud to have mentored students who have presented their research at national conferences.

Lorisha Riley has served as an Associate Professor at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, since 2016. She focuses on implementing alternative assessments and project-based learning in her online Mathematical Thinking course. She joined the Hawkes Faculty Consultant team in 2025.

Dr. VanSpronsen is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine. She has over 20 years of postsecondary teaching experience, much of it focused on first-year students. Her PhD in Mathematics Education centers on advancing the teaching and learning of mathematics at the college level.

Amy Young holds a Master’s degree in Educational Technology and has taught at Navarro College for over 23 years. Throughout her career, she has taught courses in both mathematics and psychology, bringing an interdisciplinary perspective to student learning. In addition to teaching, she has served as Interim Assistant Dean for Science and Kinesiology, supporting academic leadership and program development. Amy is committed to student success and fostering strong academic foundations across disciplines.
