The Highs and Lows of AI Resources for Neurodivergent Learners
Professor Sara Wink, Purdue University Global
Both the traditional and virtual classrooms of higher education are undergoing a metamorphosis due to ever-changing AI technologies. While some of these applications promise to lift students up and assist them in achieving their academic goals, others may be more of a hindrance than a help. This presentation will focus on a particular group of students often left on the sidelines: neurodivergent students. Those diagnosed with invisible disabilities like Dyslexia, Autism, or ADHD have unique needs that may be met at least partially by AI, but AI should not be a substitute for the humanity so vital in making a college experience truly impactful. This presentation will consider the current research on current/potential AI applications in the college classroom. This presentation will also explore the benefits of nurturing the human connection between the educator and class so that all students feel seen and included in such a diverse setting.
