Making GE Math Engaging Through Field Trips
Keith White, Utah Valley University
This presentation will describe field trips taken with students as part of a General Education Quantitative Reasoning Course. The field trips range from five-minute excursions on campus to overnight field trips to a national park. The presentation will include examples of the mathematical activities covered on these trips and how these activities increase relevance for students. Activities from more algebra-heavy courses will also be presented. In addition, logistics, best practices, benefits, and challenges will be discussed.
