Generative AI as a Teaching Tool in a Biology Class

Generative AI offers an opportunity to enhance students’ experience in a classroom. The purpose of the session is to describe an approach that combines in-class instructions and generative AI. This approach was used in a virology class, and it served as a foundation to introduce students to fundamental concepts in the field. Prompts were designed to teach students basic information about a subject, followed by in-class discussion and critical evaluation of the content. Students used chatbots to explore AI-generated responses to specific questions, which enhanced their understanding of the subject.
