To perform the task of deep thinking, we require students to closely read a text to not only familiarize themselves with the author’s main argument but to determine the reliability of rhetorical strategies employed. Although existing syllabuses have recorded much success in getting students to engage with the required reading materials, I propose pairing books with video games will strengthen their comprehension skills. This session will involve a comparative analytical framework, excerpts from an assignment rubric, digital clippings of students’ essays using video games, and a pedagogical strategy where books and games are synthesized to improve students’ thinking skills.
