Amy N Madewell, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Dr. Tara Hembrough, University of Incarnate Word
This workshop equips faculty with practical, evidence-based strategies for fostering student resilience and grit through intentional course design and teaching practices. Participants will explore ways to design assignments that promote goal-setting, progress tracking, flexibility, and meaningful feedback while modeling persistence and adaptive coping. The session will address how faculty can support students navigating academic, social, and economic challenges, including setbacks such as failed assessments, time-management difficulties, and technology barriers. Through practical examples and discussion, participants will identify approaches they can incorporate into their courses to help students develop the skills and confidence needed to persist and succeed.
