Although originally written for math instruction, this session will expand on examples for several disciplines using Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedahl. This session will take a closer look into the 14 research-based teaching strategies Liljedahl outlines to create more engaging and dynamic learning environments. These strategies are designed to move students beyond passive learning and into active problem-solving, critical thinking, and meaningful collaboration. We will discuss how small changes in classroom structure, tasks, and student grouping can foster a culture of thinking. Participants will leave with actionable ideas they can immediately implement to transform their classrooms into thinking-centered spaces.
