What happens when future language teachers from Ukraine and ESL students in the United States learn together in a shared virtual classroom? This presentation highlights an international COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) project that brought students together to explore multilingualism, cultural identity, and global communication through the shared topic of language. Using regular collaboration, Zoom breakout rooms, and mini projects, students moved beyond textbook learning and engaged with real people and perspectives. Ukrainian teacher candidates also gained valuable teaching experience by designing and delivering reading-focused micro-lessons for their international peers. The project illustrates how virtual teamwork can transform classroom learning into meaningful real-world experiences while building the professional, linguistic, and intercultural skills students need in today's connected world.
