Building community in online courses can be challenging, especially when students may never meet in-person. In this session, two instructors from different disciplines—educational technology and mathematics—share intentional course design strategies that promote connection, engagement, and a sense of belonging in online classes. Participants will explore practical approaches such as structuring discussion boards for meaningful interaction, designing effective meet-and-greet activities, creating purposeful working groups, and using low-stakes team-building assessments. Attendees will leave with adaptable strategies and templates that can be applied across disciplines to strengthen community and support student success in online courses.
