To correct the “invalid procedure call or argument” error, please perform the following steps:
REINSTALL THE HAWKES STUDENT COURSEWARE
Windows XP:
| 1. | Click on the Windows Start button in the lower left hand corner of the screen. |
| 2. | Click on the Control Panel option. |
| 3. | Double click on “Add or Remove Programs”. |
| 4. | Once the list populates, find and click on the entry for the Hawkes software, then click on the "Remove" button. |
| 5. | Follow the prompts to uninstall the Hawkes software. |
| 6. | Usually this is enough, but it may be helpful to verify that any lingering files are also deleted: |
| a. | Click the Windows Start button, then click on My Computer. |
| b. | Browse to Local Disk (C:)\Program Files\Hawkes Learning Systems\
(Note: If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, the folder location will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Hawkes Learning Systems) |
| c. | If the Hawkes Learning Systems folder does not exist, the uninstall was successful. If the folder exists, right-click on the <ProductCode> folder that corresponds with the product that was uninstalled. |
| d. | Left-click on Delete. Click Yes to delete all folders. |
Windows Vista / 7:
| 1. | Click on the Windows Start button in the lower left hand corner of the screen. |
| 2. | Click on the Control Panel option. |
| 3. | Under the "Programs" heading, click on the "Uninstall a program" link. |
| 4. | Once the list populates, find the entry for the Hawkes software, right click on the entry, and select Uninstall. |
| 5. | Follow the prompts to uninstall the Hawkes software. |
| 6. | Usually this is enough, but it may be helpful to verify that any lingering files are also deleted: |
| a. | Click the Windows Start button, then click on Computer. |
| b. | Browse to Local Disk (C:)\Program Files\Hawkes Learning Systems\
(Note: If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, the folder location will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Hawkes Learning Systems) |
| c. | If the Hawkes Learning Systems folder does not exist, the uninstall was successful. If the folder exists, right-click on the <ProductCode> folder that corresponds with the product that was uninstalled. |
| d. | Left-click on Delete. Click Yes to delete all folders. |
If the automated uninstall steps do not completely remove the Hawkes software from your system, please perform the following steps to manually uninstall:
| 1. | Delete the Hawkes Learning Systems key from the Registry: |
| a. | Windows XP: From the Start Menu, select Run. Type “regedit” in the text box and click “ok”.
Windows Vista / 7: From the Start Menu, type “regedit” in the search box. Click on the regedit.exe link that appears in the program list. |
| b. | In the Registry Editor window that appears, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hawkes Learning Systems
(Note: click on the symbol next to each "folder" to expand the registry key list downwards) |
| 2. | Delete the temporary installation folders: |
| a. | Windows XP: Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Appdata
(If the folder is not visible, click on the Tools menu at the top of the window, then click Folder and Search Options. Click on the View tab, select the “Show hidden files and folders” button, then click Apply and OK.)
Windows Vista / 7: Browse to C:\ProgramData
(If the folder is not visible, click on the Organize menu in the top left corner of the window, then click Folder Options. Click on the View tab, select the “Show hidden files and folders” button, then click Apply and OK.) |
| a. | Open each numbered directory that looks like {<bunch of numbers and letters>}. If the folder contains the Hawkes logo or setup files, click on the "Back" arrow in the top left corner of the folder window, then right-click on the folder and choose Delete. |
Install the student software from our website:
| 2. | Select your product from the drop down list. |
| 3. | Click on either the "Compact" or "Complete" installer link.
The only difference between the two downloads is that the Complete download includes all optional multimedia content (lesson narration and brief tutorial videos) that is included on the installation CDs. |
| 4. | When prompted, save the Installer program to your Desktop. |
| 5. | After the file is saved to your desktop, double click on it to begin the installation. |
