 About Our Company
Company History

Originally named Quant Systems, our company was founded in 1979. The company developed mathematical modeling software tools. In 1985 we began a transition to academic publishing by introducing our first tutorial software program and textbook for introductory statistics.

In 1996 we made a full push into the field of mathematics by acquiring nine titles from other publishers and securing contracts with eight authors. These we published under the name Hawkes Publishing. Soon after we developed introductory math courseware to accompany several of these titles using the same methods we had perfected over the previous 11 years of engineering academic software.

We created the very first computer based tutorial and assessment software of its kind. Quant Systems actually pioneered this type of software in the academic market. Around the year 2000 imitation products started to emerge from other publishers. Today all the major publishers have adopted some aspect of this technology and it is a very well integrated component of the academic world.

The competition was a welcome change for us and actually helped the market develop. As more competitors created these products our vision gained legitimacy. Given our 15 year head start (several hundred development years) in the industry, we quickly emerged as the premiere specialty company to provide this type of product. Customers and employees have quickly mushroomed during this period of expansion which in actuality, has only just begun.

In 2004 we celebrated our 25th year anniversary. As a nod to our founding father we changed the operating name of the company to “Hawkes Learning Systems”. This we feel is more descriptive of what we do and consolidates the “Quant Systems” and “Hawkes Publishing” divisions. We concentrate on a complete approach with integrated textbook, intelligent homework software, and testing assessment software, in essence a complete “System” for teaching math.

Today we are ever expanding our line of software products, textbooks and authors. In addition, we constantly refine and improve our existing titles to provide the academic community with the best possible tools for effectively teaching mathematics.

Through the years and the explosive market growth, we have been able to maintain a family atmosphere throughout the culture of our company. We maintain a close relationship with customers and are able to provide unparalleled family style service while delivering superior quality products.
