The "Table of Contents is Not Responding" error has been linked to laptops with Synaptics touchpads.

If you are not using a laptop, go to the section below called NON-LAPTOP TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS

Verify that your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics touchpad by performing these steps:

1.From the Windows Start menu, right-click on “Computer” or “My Computer”, then left-click on Manage
2.Click on the "Device Manager" listing in the left sidebar.
3.Double-click on the “Mice and other pointing devices” listing.
4.If you see “Synaptics Touchpad” device, or some other device with Synaptics in its name, then this update applies to you.  Perform the following steps.

 

If your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics touchpad, perform these steps:

1.From the Windows Start menu, right-click on “Computer” or “My Computer”, then left-click on Properties.
2.Note if your copy of Windows is the 32-bit or 64-bit version.
3.Go to http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers and click on the appropriate driver for your version of Windows.  Save it to your Desktop.
4.From the Start menu, click on Control Panel. Choose "Add or Remove Programs" for Windows XP or "Uninstall a program" for Windows Vista / 7.
5.Once the list of installed programs is compiled, search for the Synaptics Touchpad driver, then left click on it and select Remove for Windows XP or Uninstall for Windows Vista /  7.
6.Restart your computer
7.Run the new Synaptics setup program from step 3.
8.Restart the computer again to complete the driver installation.

 

NON-LAPTOP TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS

 

Reinstall Adobe Flash Player:

1.Download the flash reinstall utility from http://downloads.hawkeslearning.com/Other/AdobeFlashPlayer/ReinstallFlash10.exe
2.Once the file has downloaded, run it and follow the prompts to uninstall and then reinstall Adobe Flash Player.
Note: You will be prompted to reboot your computer during the process.

 

If the problem persists, perform the following steps:

Register DLLS:

1.Close the Hawkes software.
2.From the Windows Start Menu, click on All Programs -> Hawkes Learning Systems -> (Product Name) -> Help -> Reregister DLLs
3.Click Next.
4.Select the option "Unregister then register files".
5.Click Next, Next, and then click Finish once the registration process has completed.
