Hawkes Learning Systems, founded in 1979 as Quant Systems, specializes in mathematics software and textbooks. With a foundation rooted in developing mathematical modeling software, in 1985 the company transitioned into educational courseware, pioneering the first sophisticated courseware product combining a high level of artificial intelligence with a mastery based pedagogical approach. This product defined a new class of software for teaching mathematics.
In 1996 Quant Systems expanded into the field of academic publishing for mathematics. At that time the company acquired nine titles and secured contracts with eight authors. These titles were published under the name Hawkes Publishing. Soon after, the company developed courseware products to accompany these titles using the same methods perfected over the previous 11 years engineering academic software.
In 2004 Quant Systems celebrated its 25th anniversary. In tribute to its founder Dr. James Hawkes, the company changed its name to Hawkes Learning Systems. All software and books are now published under the name Hawkes Learning Systems. In addition to software and textbook titles, the company offers a complete course management system, test generator, and assessment builder for instructors.
